Vertigo, solo exhibition (2026)
What can the vestibular system, our sensory system located in the inner ear, tell us about the relationship between balance and spatial orientation?
Developed during the a residency at NEJD, Vertigo reflects on the relationship between sound and image through an interplay of disorientation and scale.
Taking Walt Disney’s Fantasound, the stereophonic sound system developed for Fantasia (1940), as a historical point of departure, and drawing on research into two local sites: the amusement park Liseberg and its production of leisure, and Ringön as a site of industrial labour and production, the exhibition extends the artist’s ongoing investigation into the control and discipline of sound.
Through a new work series, the exhibition explores how value is attributed to different forms of activity, aided and legitimised by language and plans. By destabilising a sense of vertical orientation, the artist reflects on whose activities and which modes of production are granted ‘space’, and what the ‘tuning’ of public life sounds like.
